Tery and Daniel McCowan are starting their new and exciting venture which is Clachan Manse Bed & Breakfast in April 2018. We welcome families and couples alike. Applecross is a wonderful place to explore for anyone. With a wealth of beaches, several local walks, kayaking, photographic workshops, personal training workouts, group workouts, amazing places to eat and drink and lots more!
Tery is a Designer originally from Edinburgh and runs her printing and interior design business ‘Clement Design’ from her home studio at Clachan. She is a trained screen printer and her wallpaper and hand printed textile designs feature throughout the Bed & Breakfast. From the wallpaper to the cushions, blinds, tea towels – through to the placemats and mugs; Tery has designed a contemporary and Scottish range for you to enjoy.
Daniel grew up in Applecross and then went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Strathclyde but soon realised he preferred working outdoors! He turned his hand to Joinery which he now does full time for his brother’s business in Applecross. McCowan Joinery has renovated the annex of Clachan Manse into the beautiful 2 double rooms that we run as our bed & breakfast. In the pipeline he is creating a master / family en suite within the house as well as converting the loft into a studio for Clement Design!
The couple like to support and promote locally made crafts and produce where possible. They even have a wee home interiors gift area so that if you like what you see on your stay then you can buy it to take it home to enjoy. As well as Tery’s own interior design range you can purchase toiletries made in Scotland, locally made jams, Scottish artwork, photography and lots of other fantastic and unique finds.
They live in the manse along with their 2 lovely girls Freya & Phoebe who are ages 7 and 8 and their 2 black cats Grizzly and Bo. The family welcome you into their home and hope you have a wonderful stay here.

We stayed in the gorgeous Highland Coo room (decorated by owner, designer Tery) with huge comfy bed and views across the bay. Despite cold & blustery weather the room was warm and cosy. Our little dog was welcome which was wonderful. Ensuite has a big walk in shower with locally produced toiletries provided. Breakfast is served in the main house; my porridge was lovely & husband said his full Scottish breakfast was best he’s had on this trip. Thank you for a very welcoming and comfortable stay. We’d love to return one day!- Stunning room, tasty breakfast, great location - & dog friendly too!, September 2019
Only spent one night in the Highland Coo room, and I so wished it were more! Absolute delight of a room, super comfy bed and gorgeous Scottish toiletries and a cosy heated bathroom floor! Tery is charming and helpful and the perfect host. She booked a table for me for dinner and provided a map for me to follow. Breakfast was delicious – really set me up for the day, I sincerely hope I can make a return visit – but for longer next time- Fabulous B and B, September 2019
